ABC released the first episode of Season 21 of The Bachelorette on July 8. Every Monday, a new episode came out that kept fans hooked on who the bachelorette would end up with. Jenn Tran was announced as the bachelorette. 25 men entered and Tran left with one, or so we thought.
The season started off with the introduction of 25 men meeting Tran and fans through the screen. With corny punch lines, these men swept Tran and fans off their feet instantly. Tran is expected to give out a certain number of roses each episode. Whoever receives a rose moves on with Tran while the others are sent home. Producers give a production that includes the drama, heartbreak, and jealousy that has fans giving their guess of who Tran will choose in the end.
“Seeing all 25 men coming in in the first episode, you immediately see who Jenn clicks with and who she does not,” Ivy Neckar, a senior, said.
In every episode, Tran invites a few men to have an individual date. This gives her the chance to get to know them on a personal level. They do activities that show her how they would react in real life situations with her and how they would comfort her. Behind the scenes though, many of the men began to argue about being unfair. Some did not receive as much individual time as others did and they decided to confront each other, causing a feud. These behaviors became apparent to Tran and resulted in her removing some men from the show.
It came down to three men: Marcus, Devin, and Jonathan. After she met their families, they then went to Hawaii where one of them would propose. Tran spent days with each of them and at the end of the night she gave them each a key to a room which let them spend the night together and gave them the opportunity to discuss the future and a chance to express their devotion to Tran. The final two, Marcus and Devin, met Tran’s family which led to an intense discussion of who she sees a future with and who will get the final rose.
“From the beginning, I knew Marcus and Devin were definitely going to make it to the end, but the last episode was shocking to watch with the sudden uncertainty of Marcus’ feelings about commitment,” Neckar said.
The final episode reveals a never-before-ending. After Tran makes her final decision of sending Marcus home, she decides to propose to Devin. Tran is then brought to the present time interview to watch the devastating result that no one expected to happen. Although Devin made a good impression on television, it is said that he broke off the engagement a few weeks after the show ended. This jaw dropping ending had fans in rage.
