There has been an uproar about the news circling Donald Trump about the fact he arrested someone in DC. Due to them burning the American flag practically on the White House’s front lawn, he arrested the man in Washington DC on August 26. The man responsible for burning the flag admitted the reason for his actions, it was due to a recent executive order Trump signed the day before involving flag burning, he found it unreasonable and decided to protest.
Donald Trump put someone under arrest on August 25, 2025, for burning an American flag near the White House in protest. He protested the idea that burning the American flag should be unconstitutional and in retaliation to this, Trump the US government, the FBI, and US Park Police arrested him there. Flag burning only became legal in the case Texas Vs Johnson, Johnson defended the idea that flag burning is an expression of our 1st Amendment. Texas said the idea was unconstitutional and that burning a flag should not be allowed. This has stayed and will continue to stay until proven that it does break not break our1st amendment. Supreme Court of the United States in which the Court held, 5–4, that burning the Flag of the United States was protected speech under the First Amendment, freedom of press, religion, speech, petition, assembly. The flag burning would fall under symbolic speech and political speech, expressing how we feel. Many people believe that in America you should not be scared to express how you feel about certain things, and you should be able to show how you feel about certain topics that you feel strong towards.
Some people believe that Trump should face consequences for what he has done, unjustly sending someone to jail for freedom of speech and petition. We have asked several students for their voice and opinion on this debacle and what they would have done instead of how the President handled it. People have many different views on the matter, some not thinking it’s a big deal while others believe it’s not talked about as much as it should be. One student says that “There should be a punishment, and that the people should decide it.” Another student believes the president should be fined and be taken to court. These could both be viable options that the people could vote to do. This little case can lead to something much more if not taken care of and addressed carefully enough. What will happen next? What will become of Trump, and will this become more common in his decisions? Time will only tell what becomes of this predicament. This case is still under review to this day.
