Spirit week is here, and Wharton students are filled with excitement as Homecoming gets closer. Spirit week is more than themed outfits; it is a tradition that unifies the student body in leu of the big dance and game. Wharton is taking on a Glitz & Gatsby theme for homecoming, inspiring the 1920 themes for the week of September 29 through October 3. Students are going all out for their outfits and showing off their school spirit. This fun week is leading up to the highly anticipated Homecoming Pep Rally, Football Game against East Bay High School, and Dance at Steinbrenner Field on October 4. This week is a fun way to get all grades hyped and create community.
The 2025 Spirit Week Themes were posted on September 20, for students to see and be prepared to dress accordingly. The spirit week themes in date order are Roaring Through the Decades, Party Gone Wrong, Lights Camera Gatsby, Bowties and Pearls, and finally, The Great Classby. There was positive feedback about this year’s themes, sparking many groups of students to coordinate outfits for certain days. Many students took part and showed off their school spirit. The Wharton Student Government did a fantastic job producing the themes and encouraging students of all grade levels to dress up!
The students have had such positive comments about this year’s choices of themes. Many have provided us their opinion on this week’s efforts and attire. Senior Derek Montanaz said “I would say probably the third day, where everyone got to wear their Broadway or movie costumes. A lot of people were able to dress up as things that they really like, so I thought that was the most memorable day so far of the week.”
We asked more students about their opinions on this year’s spirit week and were met with a similar response across the board. We even asked seniors for their advice to the lowerclassmen about spirit week and dressing up. Senior Mia Crum told us “Just don’t care what anyone thinks and do your own thing! Find a group of friends or even one friend to participate with you so you feel less awkward about it and dress up together. It is really fun, and it is a great way to show school spirit!”
The Homecoming football game held a great turnout, with many students not only cheering on our team, but taking part in all gold theme in honor of Homecoming. The game was filled with exciting moments for our players and for the fans, as well as the Homecoming court. During halftime, our fellow students on court were presented to the school, followed by the announcement of Homecoming King Fernando Baysa and Queen Charlize Buie.
The biggest event of the week was held on Saturday October 4, at Steinbrenner Field. Homecoming night was a success and had a great turn out and atmosphere. The student government did a phenomenal job at coming up with the themes, decorations, and in general organizing this event for the school. Everyone was dressed to the nines in their suits and dresses and looking their absolute best. It was a great way to end the 2025 Homecoming week and a memorable start to many more festivities.
