Since the lovely year of 2022, I have fallen in love with the delicious flavor of pumpkin spice. It all started in the fall of that year when my beloved father brought home a box of pumpkin spice donut holes from the Entenmann’s Pop’ems brand. That day marked the birth of an intense passion guided by a growing infatuation to all things considered fall theme. The crisp falling leaves, the chill breeze that rocks the trees. And of course…the Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Lattes. I have never had one before, but it is a dream of mine.
The pumpkin spice flavor derives from a beautiful mixture of cinnamon, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and sometimes allspice. I was very much surprised to learn that pumpkin spice doesn’t include any pumpkin filling it in, but I still love it so. This exquisite combination fills my entire being with joy and the uncontrollable urge to roll around in leaf piles.
The flavor itself sparks a warm feeling within that reminds me of autumn school days where teachers ask us to create hand turkeys to list what we are grateful for. The flavor pertains an earthy base that makes me feel grounded in times of stress and disorganization when nothing else can bring me relief. The spice from which the flavor gets its namesake from leaves one feelings a sharp kick on the taste buds that leave you wanting for more. It’s no wonder why the flavor is so addicting.
It was no wonder that such a delicious and addictive flavor soon became popular when Starbucks started selling Pumpkin Spice Lattes in the fall of 2003 as a popular seasonal beverage. This popular beverage soon became a key part of the Pumpkin Spice Girlies stereotype and of the fall girl lifestyle. The drink delightfully pairs nicely with pumpkins ironically, muted colors, and turtleneck sweaters.
This beautiful blend has found its way into many tasty desserts that I truly love. This spice goes in almost anything: from delicious pumpkin snickerdoodles to pumpkin swirl cheesecake. I personally love pumpkin spice bread; it goes well with pumpkin spice coffee…life can never have too much spice. Another delectable dessert with pumpkin spice in it would be the Nutella swirled pumpkin pie. This reimagined version of a pumpkin pie has a sick twist to it with the addition of Nutella and a gingersnap crust.
Pumpkin spice remains a staple of autumn in the most magnificent way. The mere taste of it brings back memories of nostalgia and fall leaves. Though it is more notably found in pumpkin pie, it’s a happy surprise found in other thanksgiving desserts. I love eating the newest addition to Walmart’s dessert aisle, especially the limited addition pumpkin spice twinkies. They are the bomb. Another favorite of mine is the pumpkin spice Swiss rolls that they added. They have the same creamy texture as regular chocolate Swiss roles but pumpkin spice flavor so its immediately 100 times better than normal Swiss roles. Man, I love pumpkin spice.
