With the 2024-25 NFL season now arriving, many fans are used to the excitement and lofty expectations they hold for their favorite teams. There are even many new NFL fans tuning in to the season thanks to the pop-singer superstar Taylor Swift. Despite it being a time for hopes and anticipation for most fans, it is usually quite the opposite for Bears fans.
In the past ten years, the Bears hold a lousy .353 winning percentage, second worst in the entire NFL. If this stat was not embarrassing enough for the struggling franchise, being the only NFL team to never have a quarterback throw for 30 touchdowns or 4,000 yards certainly does not help their reputation. This is common knowledge for Bears fans, and it is far past time the organization did something to change this.
The most recent quarterback tragedy was the failed experiment of Justin Fields. Expected to be the missing link, Fields was given many chances and yet again, the Bears failed development and lack of ability to construct a well-rounded team left Fields no other option but to crash and burn. With a 10-28 record as a starter for the Bears, Fields was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers where he hopes for a new beginning.
Despite being such an awful franchise over the past few years, general manager Ryan Poles has made many impactful decisions to set the Bears up for a future many fans once thought impossible. Constructing a brand-new team this year, Poles has set up a perfect opportunity for a new quarterback to thrive. Acquiring two stud receivers in All pro Keenan Allen and first rounder Rome Odunze completes an incredible receiving core including returning WR1 Dj Moore. These additions, however, are nothing in comparison to the biggest addition to the team, the most coveted college draft prospect in recent memory, Heisman winner Caleb Williams.
Williams has been in the Spotlight since his freshman year at Oklahoma, after his viral performance against Texas where he led the Sooners to a twenty-one-point comeback to win 53-45. Preceding to win Heisman in his following season, the young quarterback has never been lacking in confidence. This is exactly the type of player Bears fans have been waiting for and is why many believe Williams to be the difference maker. In a recent interview on The Pivot, Williams was quoted as saying, “What’s the reason to Duck. I’m here. Rome’s here. – Attack it headfirst and go and get it,” This assurance in his team and more importantly in himself, is exactly why Bears fans believe the future is very bright for Caleb Williams.
