The National Football League (NFL) has been one of America’s favorite football broadcastings. But there have been some growing concerns about its future. Like a rise in player injuries, to controversies surrounding team dilemmas, has led to many questions whether the league is on verge of breaking apart. As the 2024-2025 season progresses, it seems that the NFL faces mounting challenges that could shape its many years to come.
One of the most pressing issues facing the NFL today is the unprecedented level of player injuries. Concussions, tore ACL’s, leg and many other injuries have plagued the league for years, but recent seasons have seen a troubling increase in the number and severity of injuries. High profile players such as quarterbacks, wide receivers, and running backs have been sidelined for weeks or even most of the season. This growing list of injured stars has put a strain on the team. Forcing coaches to scramble to create game plans around lots of players. Like Trevor Lawrence, Russell Wilson, Alex Singleton, and many more players have had major injuries throughout the 2024-2025 year. Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence suffered a concussion after being struck while attempting to slide feet-first. Alex Singleton tore his ACL and was out for the rest of the season. Russell Wilson with a major calf injury making him out for weeks.
Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill is known for his speeds and electrifying plays. Hill, who has already enjoyed Super Bowl victory with the Kansas City Chiefs, has never experienced one with the Dolphins. Making him lose out on another year of playoffs his early retirement may cause disruption for the Miami Dolphins.
“I’m opening the door. Like, I’m out,” Hill said, to the Miami Herald’s Omar Kelly. “It was great playing here, but at the end of the day, I got to do what’s best for my career… I’m too much of a competitor to be just out there. I just got to do what’s best for me and my family, if that’s here or if that’s wherever the case may be. I’m going to open that door for myself. I’m opening the door,” said Hill, who had just two catches and 20 yards to end a frustrating season that saw him come up short of 1,000 One of the biggest shocks of the season is that star wide receiver Tyreek Hill did not reach 1,000 yards receiving for the first time since the 2020 season. A big reason could have been due to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who missed a total of six games.
“I think the NFL is focusing on profit. One main example is Patrick Mahomes getting a penalty called for the other team when he flopped. But Jared Goff got hit in the head, and the refs didn’t call it. The NFL is prioritizing making money rather than players safety,” (David Denny, a freshman, said).
Not only are there major issues with injuries and players, but also coaches. The Jaguars finished in the 2024 season after a 26-23 overtime loss to the Colts in Indianapolis on Sunday. Making the decision to fire head coach Doug Pederson. Pederson is a respected coach with a successful track record. In his only other head coaching job, he won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017. In five years in Philly, he was 42-37.
“I don’t think the Cowboys will try to get Tyreek. They already have a top 10 wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. Also, I don’t think Tyreek would like to play for Dallas if he is focused on winning games.” (Vaishnavi Kommera, a freshman said)
The NFL faces several key management challenges. One is balancing player safety with the violent nature of this sport, especially with the concern over concussions and long-term health. There is also a growing gap between big markets and small marketing teams, which affects playoff hopes and distribution. Additionally, managing players contracts and the salary can lead to tension between teams, coaches, and players. Navigating these issues requires careful attention to both sides with human factors and the league losing audience. The NFL has evolved tremendously throughout the years. With rising injury rates, players’ dissatisfactions, and management issues, they have all contributed to the future of this league.
