Kendrick Lamar, the Superbowl performer of 2025 has announced he has special guest SZA joining him. Sep 2024 it was announced Lamar will be the performer of Superbowl LIX at the New Orleans superdome on Feb 9, 2025. Lamar made an advertisement video that was posted on Instagram, gaining 5 million views. The video consisted of Lamar walking across a football field on the phone. He says, “I’ve been thinking about a guest performer,” which goes on to SZA walking out and dumping a bucket of blue liquid on him.
SZA released her SOS: Deluxe album on Dec 20, 2024, which included “30 For 30” that features Lamar. Lamar and SZA also sing “Doves in the Wind”, “Babylon”, “Luther”, “gloria”, and “All the Stars” together that will give fans an exciting performance. SZA has mentioned in interviews that she admires Lamars work and is always happy to collaborate with him.
” 30 for 30 is my favorite song, it’s a collab with Kendrick. Always a good collab, their voices together are so good, and I think it is the best song on the album,” Gaby Sellhorn, a senior, said.
While most people enjoyed SZA’s new album, others don’t agree with the messages she puts out in her songs. Some describe it as unhealthy since it goes over foolish behaviors done in past relationships. Others say that they don’t skip a song on the album.
“Lana was definitely unexpected but as per usual she never misses,” Sellhorn, said.
Lamar, most known for his songwriting has also become widely known from the drama that conspired with fellow artist Drake last year. This drama led to others listening to their disses on each other and picking who they like best. While he was widely known before this led to an increase in supporters and him being talked about worldwide.
When Lamar was announced to be the halftime performer it left many non-football fans considering watching the Superbowl only for him. Now that the playoffs have come to an end many fans have come out stating their support will be going out to Lamar since their teams did not make it.
“I was shocked when I heard he was going to be singing at the Superbowl, but I was very excited, especially now that SZA is joining him,” Audrey Thomasson, a senior, said.
Sza’s new album has had 11.7 million streams and is still growing, the success of this album has left many people wondering what the performance will bring. Not only is SZA a very successful artist but Lamar is as well. Lamar attended the Grammy awards and was nominated for seven awards, receiving five of them.
Both artists are extremely talented and left people with excitement wondering what’s to come.
